Research Staff Positions
The Ludwig Institute for Cancer
Research and Cornell University have formed a partnership to develop
therapeutic agents for the treatment of cancer. The mission of the
Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research is to originate and conduct
research directed to the ultimate goal of eradicating cancer. Cornell
University through its Biotechnology Institute has significant resources
and core competencies in the area of gene expression and recombinant
protein production. The partnership explores prokaryotic and eukaryotic
systems to produce tumor antigens and validate their utility as
cancer therapeutics.
A laboratory and associated facilities
have been established on the Cornell University-Ithaca campus dedicated
to the development of recombinant DNA host systems for expressing
tumor antigens and other potential cancer therapeutic agents. A
team is being assembled to undertake this challenge and their efforts
will range from vector construction, through scale up fermentation,
to downstream purification.
Research Associate
The Cornell University/Ludwig
Institute for Cancer Research Partnership has a growing need for
research associate level scientists to help guide the various programs
in tumor antigen expression and scale up. Individuals with a PhD
in molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemical engineering or
related fields are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will
share the mission of the partnership and be willing to engage in
research and development efforts that will assist the process from
laboratory discoveries of potential therapeutic agents to their
testing in the clinic.
Graduate Student Fellowships
The Cornell University/Ludwig
Institute for Cancer Research funds two graduate research fellowships
which are intended to support Ph.D. candidate students in the broad
areas of biological sciences and/or biochemical engineering. Thesis
projects need to be related to the mission of the partnership but
should look at the more basic research aspects of recombinant protein
expression and the discovery of new host/expression systems. Graduate
students with affiliation or interest in the Graduate Program at
Cornell University are encouraged to explore the potential opportunities
regardless of field or major advisor.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities
A limited number of research
openings are available to undergraduates for the summer and during
the academic year. Opportunities exist for students to work with
the Cornell University/Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research staff
and to be an integral part of the effort to discover novel treatments
for cancer.
